BIKES, HIKES, HYBRIDS & METRO

Administrative Manager Abby Sabin is a native New Yorker who grew up walking the streets of Greenwich Village. But she eventually moved to rural Pennsylvania, where she could walk for miles without reaching a destination. "I went from a place where walking was the only choice to a place where driving was the only choice," recalled Abby. When her family moved to auto-centric Southern California seven years ago, "to walk or not to walk" became the family question. They chose walking.

Abby takes to the sidewalks to work several days a week, but the three-mile round-trip hike is just one of her daily Pasadena walking routines. The family walks with their daughter to school every day and strolls to the local movie theatre for weekend entertainment.

The benefits are numerous. In addition to reducing carbon emissions, the family feels more fit, connected and psychologically at peace.
